Our History

Nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia and the heart of the Greenbrier Valley, Wallace Memorial Cemetery is a peaceful resting place for any loved one who has passed away.

Wallace Memorial Cemetery is a family owned and operated corporation that was established in 1955 by the Wallace family.  In the mid 1950's,  At the End of the Trail Cemetery was nearing grave capacity and there was a need for additional gravesites. A 126-acre  farm across the street from the At the End of the Trail Cemetery was purchased and named "Wallace Memorial Cemetery," in memory of the late T.W. "Pop" Wallace and his son, the late Luther R. Wallace and grandson the late Robert L. "Bob" Wallace.

Beginning in 1957, Robert L. "Bob" Wallace, and his wife, Eloise Houck Wallace owned and operated Wallace Memorial Cemetery and in the 1970's guided the construction of the area's first mausoleum and expansion of the cemetery to an additional 110 acre.

Today, Bob and Eloise's three children own and operate the cemetery.  Their three children include two sons, Robert "Bob" Wallace, II of Dayton, Ohio and William "Bill" Wallace of Clintonville, WV and one daughter, Jeanne Wallace Campbell of Lewisburg, WV who have since become owners of the cemetery.  Jeanne's husband, Jerry Campbell, is now overseeing everyday operations of the cemetery.

Wallace Memorial Cemetery has been regarded as one of the prettiest and best maintained cemetery of the region.  Wallace Memorial Cemetery offers a large selection of gravesites, crypts, and niches that fits the needs of any family.  Approximately 10,000 gravesites and 1,400 crypts have been purchased by families of loved ones.  Construction of a new addition to the mausoleum which accommodates 480 crypts and 160 cremation niches was completed in 2006.  A new section for graves, that accommodates 1,776 burials was opened in June 2006.  Wallace Memorial Cemetery is a perpetual care cemetery, which means that a percentage of grave, crypt, and niche sales are put in a fund to assure future funds are available for the maintenance of the cemetery.

Not only does Wallace Memorial Cemetery offer gravesites and crypts, but they also offer monument, marker, and vase sales.  Wallace Memorial Cemetery is also able to provide bronze plaques for business and civic groups for special community recognitions.  Wallace Memorial Cemetery is an agent for Sears Monument Company (West Virginia's Largest Monument Dealer) and an agent for Matthew Bronze International (one of the nation's largest bronze dealers).  They also offer a wide selection of monument vases which can be installed on existing monuments.

Recently Wallace Memorial Cemetery has started its own monument engraving operation.  Limited engraving can be completed at the actual gravesite in Wallace Memorial Cemetery. Also, limited engravings can be done at other selected cemeteries.  Please contact us for details.

Wallace Memorial Cemetery offers pre-need sales of graves, crypts, niches, and monuments that allow families to purchase items in advance with less worry at the time of death.  Contact Jerry Campbell at the cemetery office 304-392-9811 or email at wallacememorial@yahoo.com.
